According to the folks over at EW, Rocko’s Modern Life will be getting the nostalgia treatment. Nickelodeon has approved a TV movie of Rocko’s Modern Life that will bring Rocko, Heffer, Filbert, Spunky, Mr. and Mrs. Bighead, and hopefully many other of our favorite anthropomorphic characters from O-Town (Chameleon Brothers) into the here and now to face the mundane problems of our lives.
To be honest, I’m a little surprised it took this long for Rocko to become a part of our lives again. His character is practically tailor made for social commentary on today’s issues and of course pop culture. He’s an immigrant from a strange country we don’t know a lot about (Australia), he works in a comic book store (in Australia!), and is more often an observer than a participant. While I doubt Rocko’s movie will take on anything super heavy, I do look forward to their take on cell phones, superhero movies (Really Really Big Man’s adventures will CERTAINLY have a film within the film), and social media, all of which saw their largest rise long after the show had been cancelled in ’96.
There is no set date as to when we may see the movie, but I’m pretty excited. I still sing the Spring Cleaning song when I do chores around the house.
What is your favorite moment from the show? Sound off below!
He prefers the company of his wife and dogs to most others. Batman nerd, true crime obsessed, Guinness fan, and general dork. Dad jokes are his specialty.
