And bananas are delicious. “Is that a monkey?”
I honestly wouldn’t have thought that I would be THIS excited for a new King Kong movie, BUT I AM. The original King Kong is one of my favorite films. At the time it was made nothing was more ambitious and fun to watch. Skull Island was a place full of danger. Island natives, giant creatures, even dinosaurs, and of course Kong.
Kong: Skull Island looks like it’s following in that mold with mixing some events of the 70’s remake with it, primarily just the time period. This is interesting because this is technically the second film in the expanded universe of monsters that also includes Godzilla. Godzilla was set in present day of course and has a sequel in development with one of our favorite directors, Michael Dougherty. We know these two are going to clash sooner than later, but how? This is the fun part of these things. I personally like waiting in an age where we get instant gratification.
“You don’t go into someone’s house and drop bombs unless you’re starting a fight.”
Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston in a tight t-shirt, John Goodman, Corey Hawkins, Samuel L. Jackson being Samuel L. Jackson, and John C. Reily in full on hammin it up mode round out an impressive cast. All the monsters look awesome. The imagery of Kong is kick ass. Check out that image above in the header. There’s some great things here and this also looks funny. Reily’s line delivery for explaining why he calls monsters “skull crawlers” is perfect.
Kong: Skull Island is out March 10, 2017.
His love of most things in entertainment can be summed up by having an English Bulldog named Spielberg and consistently asking if it’s Halloween yet.
