The mix-tape should be epic.
Very nostalgic, don’t you think?
For that special someone, who loves black lights…
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the teams adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Much of the film will take place in the galaxies, realms and neverworlds of the cosmos. For a Marvel film, don’t expect to see too many earthly beings just like the first film.
Don’t expect to see Thanos. Director James Gunn has stated that the mega villain will not appear in Vol. 2. For any fan who doesn’t know who Thanos is, we suggest you study up before the next Avengers movie…
5 of the 6 Infinity Stones are accounted for. Since we already found one in the previous Guardians movie, I’m guessing that the next and final stone is better served showing up in Thor: Ragnarok instead, but we will keep our eyes open.
Sources are already speaking to the fact that the original Guardians pulled some tear-jerking moments (“We Are Groot…” ), but this movie is said to really pull down some water-works. What does this mean exactly? An ending of a character? A new heartfelt moment of Rocket showing affection? Any could bring the tissues near.

Finally, the mix-tape of Vol. 2 is going to be epic…
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is in theaters on Cinco de Mayo. Arriba!
Much like the other teaser trailer did, the fuller teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrived this past weekend out of nowhere. Or more accurately, James Gunn debuted it at the Comic Con Experience in Brazil. Gunn was so overwhelmed at the response the trailer had he almost cried.
And from the trailer above I can see why. It’s one of those rare trailers that garners everything we loved from the first film and exemplifies them while giving us something brand new and different.
Here’s why the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser trailer is great.
Characters, heart, fun, funny, really funny, and is visually out of this world.
Like its predecessor, the sequel is colorful, bright, weird, and definitely sci-fi. There’s giant alien creatures with tentacles and so many teeth that Gamora and Drax have a go at. is in a giant swarming space battle piloting the Milano like a regular Skywalker would too. My favorite little touch is when asks if anyone has a piece of tape, Star-Lord sticks his head inside what I can only assume is Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russel) to have a hilarious exchange while a giant space battle is happening behind him. Those details are so weird and cool, but more than anything Vol. 2 looks like so much fun. All of this is soundtracked by Sweet’s 1974 single ‘Fox on the Run’ continuing the tone and them of the first film.
Is there anything cuter than (still voiced by Vin Diesel too!)? I don’t think so. Oh, the toys they will sell of that lil guy. The opening narration of Rocket talking to Baby Groot while our eyes absorb the imagery is pitch perfect. And when Baby Groot replies with his “I am Groot.” and goes to push the button of a nuclear bomb that will obliterate them all? Never has nuclear devastation been funnier. Following that with him repeating his “I am Groots” in different tones with Rocket understanding, and then Baby Groot smiling as he goes to push the button again is even funnier. It gets me every time. All of the dozen or so times I’ve watched this trailer.
It’s not only Groot that steals the show, no no, Dave Bautista’s, is once again amazing. From “Screw you spaceship!!!” to stabbing the alien fluids of a tentacled underbelly repeatedly, this character is a gem. The post title scene is damn near transcendent. Drax’s face as he realizes what’s happening and his further reactions are perfect.
Structuring Baby Groots moment(s) before this and closing with this scene makes watching the whole trailer multiple times a given. It’s smart and thought out and so much fun. I’m not the only one who feels this way as this was the second highest viewed trailer in one day second to only the live-action Beauty and the Beast. What’s great is these are only a few small moments from the whole. The teaser gave us just as many. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn’t a film that relies on the same one or two big laughs to sell tickets like most pure comedies do. It’s got confidence and laughs to spare. But also action, drama, and some romance I’m sure from Star-Lord and Gamora. This is the definition of a tentpole movie.
The best thing I can say about this trailer, or any other for that matter, is that it makes you want to watch the first movie again. What better compliment can you have than that? That only happens when you have something special, something more than just explosions and giant transforming robots. Guardians is that. Seeing this in a roomful of people? Can you imagine the reactions and the energy? Give James Gunn a medal for not crying in front of everyone after that. Also, Marvel, give him ALL the money to keep him happy. Happy making Guardians movies or any other movie you’d be lucky to have him interested in. He’s the glue in this.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives May 5, 2017.
Over on Marvel’s Twitter page they released the one-sheet above for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s great! It has such a late 80’s look. It’s like an REM video. And Starlord has a George Michael vibe, right?
Other things we heart: Yondu’s new mohawk, baby Groot, moody Drax, baby Groot, Nebula being there, and baby Groot.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017.
