LISTEN TO CHILDISH GAMBINO’S NEW SINGLE ‘ME AND YOUR MOMMA’

After finishing up the first season of his show Atlanta, Donald Glover gets back to his music.

We recently reported on the Childish Gambino remix to the Stranger Things theme. While this wasn’t new music from Gambino, it was a nice (and awesome) distraction.

But now we have an experimental new single off of his forthcoming third studio album titled, Awaken, My Love! Due December 2nd.

Here’s ‘Me and Your Momma’, a phrase that I share often with fellow staff writer, Matt Clubb.

That’s different. And I like that. Gambino is always pushing his music into new territories and this keeps him fresh and revolutionary for lack of a less important term. But give praise where it’s due. ‘Me and Your Momma’ is a dreamy song that is both blues and rock. Something you may expect to hear close out a live concert.

The album artwork was first glimpsed as an easter egg on Glover’s FX series, Atlanta in the Juneteenth episode seen above. One of the most bizarre episodes of the shows first season. The song was also heard in the Atlanta promo Momma that you can watch here.

Here’s the full album artwork for Awaken, My Love! that Childish Gambino revealed via Twitter.

LISTEN TO CHILDISH GAMBINO RAPPING OVER STRANGER THINGS THEME

Here’s your cool shit for the day.

Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) has a lot going on. Fortunately it’s all good! He just had his first child and I hear that’s a cool thing to do. His show Atlanta is halfway through its first season on FX and is really good. Check it out.

But like all people this day in age we crave more. Constantly. We want some more music from Gambino. Why? Because he’s one of the most versatile rappers there is (who also has a dope falsetto).

Do we have any new music from Childish Gambino? Not technically. But this remix to his song ‘Bonfire’ places those lyrics over the Stranger Things opening credits theme and it’s the coolest.

Happy Friday everyone.

Wake Up With Donald Glover’s ATLANTA Promos

Over the weekend we shared with you the trailer for Donald Glover’s Atlanta and we can’t wait to finally see it. Being genuine fans of his work and knowing how invested he’s been in the development of the show we found this playlist of 11 different promos. They total less than four minutes and we wanted to share them with you. Because we’re good like that.

I know these are brief snippets, but I love them all. The first half are the 15 second glimpses of life, all very reactionary and what I imagine your life flashing before your eyes would be like. Then we have the ‘Wake Up’ promo being the longest of the playlist at 45 seconds and a joy to watch quite frankly. The track ‘Sleepless’ by Flume and Jezzabell Doran is pitch perfect in it as well  (we’ve embedded that for your listening pleasure below, again, because we’re good like that). After that, the latter bunch of promos are filmed in reverse, giving such a bizarre and interesting quality to them. At first, I thought that Donald just had a gimp leg, but then noticed everything going on in the background. I LOVE the few where he’s walking with his friends and they have some impromptu dance moves. Those reversed clips feature Rihanna’s ‘Same Ol’ Mistakes‘ which is my favorite JAM from her ANTI album.

Just the fact that they’ve been so creative with these promos gives me even more anticipation for Atlanta… and more music from Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover, but you already knew that because you’re good like that).

Atlanta premieres Sept 6 on FX.

Official Trailer For Donald Glover’s ATLANTA

A new trailer for Atlanta, Donald Glover’s new FX show, is up! Glover is the writer/producer/director/actor/one-can-assume-composer on the show – it’s really his baby and it’ll be exciting to finally see it on the (small) screen.

A couple things are interesting here: instead of being strictly autobiographical, Glover seems to be playing against-type as the family man looking on as a cousin suddenly hits it big. Glover is a pretty introspective artist, and reversing these roles could be an interesting way for him to examine his own journey and still very young fame.
