Hold the door! HBO has released the first teaser trailer for the seventh season of Game of Thrones.
There are a lot of smoldering stares, some eyeball close ups, and people sitting in chairs. Let’s watch.
I never read the Song of Ice and Fire books. It isn’t that I didn’t read my share of fantasy novels, they just never popped up on my radar. So I came to Game of Thrones late in the…umm… game. My wife demanded that I catch up so we could watch it together, so I blew through the first five seasons in a week or two, having already been aware of the major twists and deaths long before they came. Now that the series has finally moved past where the novels have so far left off, even those nerdy book readers can’t be sure who will sit upon the Iron Throne and who will fall victim to the Red Wedding 2: Better Off Ned.
The teaser above reminded us of the three major players left in the game. Jon Snow ended Season 6 being proclaimed the new King In The North, with a bullseye on his back being drawn by Littlefinger. Daenerys proved why she is still the Mother of Dragons, and Cersei blew up like, all of King’s Landing.
We see all three of these characters dramatically walking towards their respective thrones, three rulers destined to face off. After Cersei lets out a cold breath, we slowly pull out, uh, back to reveal the eye of the Night’s King. The ever present danger from across the wall. After the loss of the Dragon Glass last season, how will this guy be defeated? All of this is accompanied by strange song called ‘Sit Down’ because they are sitting. I get it!
I am sure we will get some deeper looks as HBO releases more footage and full trailers soon.
Game of Thrones will be taking it’s place as the King of Sunday evening television on July 16th.
