What’s new with the Angels this year?
This years Victoria’s Secret Angel lineup includes: Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes (wearing the 2016 fantasy bra), Josephine Skriver, Lais Ribeiro, Martha Hunt, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell and Taylor Hill.
Returning to the runway will be Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, however, this year will be Bella Hadid’s first year to walk in the fashion show. She will also be walking down the runway next to her ex The Weeknd fresh of the success of his #1 album, Starboy.
You’ll get to see performances by Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and The Weeknd.
Unfortunately, we will be missing the beautiful Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo. The news isn’t all bad though, Prinsloo and husband, Adam Levine, welcomed their baby girl on September 21st. Soon after, on October 7th, Swanepoel and her fiancé, Hermann Nicoli, welcomed their baby boy. This isn’t the first time that we’ve missed an Angel, and it surely won’t be the last, but I’m sure they will bounce back next year.
What does it take to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel?
Well, the answer is that no one really knows, but we have gotten a few hints from Angels over the years. Things that we know for sure are that Angels have to sign a contract. This contract reads their compensation, how much time they have to dedicate that year to working, rules and regulations and more. We know that the models are on strict exercise schedules and healthy diets that include lots of vitamins. Being an Angel binds you to public appearances, special events, commercials and print advertisements as well as travel commitments. Although each model is different—they each have their own personality and dedication to their work ethic.
How exactly does a model exercise and prepare for the fashion show?
Many of the models revealed that they work out, eat healthy and drink tons of water in the weeks prior to the show. Each model has her own workout routine and diet, but they are extremely dedicated and they hardly falter. Many of the models go through a detox a week before the show. They cut carbs completely, and some of them go on liquid-only diets a few days before. Adriana Lima completely cuts herself off of all liquids 12 hours before show time. Apparently it can enhance the look of your muscles.
But that’s not all…
The models go through intense hair and makeup before the show. They spend hours behind the mirror with a team of hair and makeup artists. Most of the models get their bodies airbrushed, head-to-toe, and they all get fresh manicures and pedicures of course. All of that may seem extremely relaxing, but I can’t even begin to imagine the feelings of anxiety from all of the girls. In an interview with InStyle, Karlie Kloss said, “The night before we have a dress rehearsal, and the day of, it’s all day, hair and makeup and interviews. By the time the show actually rolls around I’m kind of exhausted, and it hasn’t even started. It’s a really special day when it finally all comes together in that moment when the show actually happens.” I’m sure all of the girls will get a rush of relief once it’s all over. After the show, most of the girls treat themselves to pizza and cheeseburgers (!!!), at least that’s what we see on their Instagram and Twitter feeds!
